| Annecdote | 15 January 2014 | Memory from Frank Kelly, work colleague on 15 January 2014. From an email sent to Jane Snell after the death of Peter Marshall. Hello Stan, Thanks for that news, unhappy though it was. I think Peter did once explain to me the origin of the nickname Honey but at this distance in time I can't remember it. Here is another photo of Peter with the AWRE cricket team in 1959. He was actually hors de combat that season due to a broken leg (soccer-related I think) but hopped around doing umpiring duty for us. It was during that season that Peter told me of his school days at Dagenham County High School and how one boy in his year was so musically talented that he won an organ scholarship to Oxford. The boy's name meant nothing to me in 1959 but a couple of years later it became linked to a satirical revue, together with Peter Cook, Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller. Later still he performed as half of the Pete and Dud duo and also made several films in Hollywood. Yes - Peter Marshall was at school with Dudley Moore. Thanks for all your work for the Old Foulnessians, Regards, Frank.12 |
